Petrol Generators

A petrol generator is a useful source of temporary electricity when a suitable mains connection is unavailable. Our petrol generator range covers compact units for lighter outdoor loads and larger open-frame sets for tools and site work. Match your equipment to the generator’s continuous output in watts or kilowatts, then check maximum output separately for short starting demands. A motor, compressor or pump can need substantially more power when it starts than while it runs.

Look closely at the electrical connections. Some models provide 115V site-tool outlets as well as 230V sockets, while others offer 230V only. Inverter petrol generators are worth comparing when electronic equipment needs a specified inverter output; an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) on a conventional generator is not the same thing as a pure sine wave inverter. Recoil start is straightforward, while selected larger models also offer electric or remote starting. Tank size, weight and noise figures can help narrow your shortlist.

Petrol generators must be used outdoors, well away from doors, windows and ventilation openings. They must never be run inside a house, garage, shed or other enclosed space. Never connect one to a building by backfeeding a socket; a qualified electrician must design a suitable changeover arrangement. For alternatives, compare diesel generators for different duty profiles or portable power stations for battery-powered portable electricity.
